Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
We are happy to answer all of your questions about our puppies, our process, and our services.
Adoption Process
1. How do I reserve a puppy? The first step is always to complete our Puppy Application. Once your application is reviewed and approved, we will contact you to discuss available puppies or future litters. A non-refundable deposit is then required to secure your chosen puppy.
2. Why is a deposit non-refundable? The deposit secures your commitment to a specific puppy, meaning we immediately turn away other interested families. If you cancel for any reason, the deposit covers the time, care, and marketing costs associated with holding and re-homing the puppy. Please see our Deposits Page for full details.
3. When can I take my puppy home? Our Chihuahuas are typically ready to go home between 9 and 12 weeks of age, depending on their individual size and development. We always prioritize the puppy’s health and readiness over a specific date.
4. Can I visit the puppies before placing a deposit? Due to biosecurity concerns and to protect the health of our young puppies and mothers, we do not allow general visitation. We are happy to schedule a FaceTime video call after your application is submitted so you can meet the puppies and see their environment!
Health and Care
5. What is included in the puppy’s price? The price includes a comprehensive package: a full health check by a licensed veterinarian, age-appropriate vaccinations and deworming, a one-year genetic health guarantee, AKC/ACA limited registration papers, and a complete Puppy Pack with starter supplies. Please see our Pricing Page for a detailed breakdown.
6. Do you guarantee the adult size (weight) of the puppy? No, we cannot guarantee the exact adult size or weight. We provide an estimated “charting weight” based on standard growth charts and the weights of the parents, but diet and environment can affect growth.
7. Are your puppies spayed or neutered before they go home? No. We require all pet-only puppies to be spayed or neutered by their new owners by a veterinarian of their choice, usually between 6 to 12 months of age, as per our contract agreement.
8. What is hypoglycemia, and why is it a concern for Chihuahuas? Hypoglycemia (low blood sugar) is a risk for tiny breeds, especially those under 4 lbs. It can be triggered by stress, missed meals, or strenuous activity. We educate all new owners on how to recognize the symptoms and prevent this serious condition through proper care and feeding schedules.
Travel and Services
9. Do you offer shipping? Yes, we offer Pet Nanny Shipping across the continental USA. This is a premium service where a human escort accompanies your puppy in the cabin of the airplane. We never ship our small puppies via cargo. Please visit our Shipping Page for cost and process details.
10. What specialized services do you offer? We offer a full range of Chihuahua-specific services, including: Tiny Pampering Grooming, positive reinforcement Pet Training, supervised Pet Minding (Day Care), and premium Pet Sitting (Overnight). These services are tailored to the unique needs of small breeds.
11. Do you offer breeding rights? We primarily place puppies as “Pet Only.” Breeding rights are granted on a very limited basis and are reserved for approved, established breeding programs. This request must be specified on your application and will result in an increased fee.
